LANIN SOUTH TRAVERSE

The Lanín National Park is the perfect spot to practice low-difficulty mountain trekking. As the days go by, we will discover refreshing waterfalls of crystal-clear waters and spectacular lake beaches, always under the watchful eye of the Lanín Volcano, which shows us its different faces and changing beauty. This circuit is perfect for those novel trekkers who want to experience a true Patagonian adventure.

Day before the trek
Meeting with the guide in San Martín de los Andes to adjust details and to know the trip plan day by day. Preparation of the specific equipment.

Day 1 Puerto Auquinco - Rincón de Los Pinos
Private ground transfer from San Martín de los Andes to the east end of Lake Lolog. From there will take a boat for about 25 minutes to port Auquinco, where the trekking starts through the Valley of Auquinco to the north of Rincon de Los Pinos Camping. We will skirt Lake Lolog through a lush, fresh, and humid forest. This trail offers pretty nice views.
Night at wild campsite next to the river shore without services.

Day 2 Rincon de Los Pinos - Green Lagoon
We continue the trek to the north to cross a small pass that connect with the next valley and has one of the best views of the Lanín Volcano
This sector of the trek allows us to cross an ash field of the Achen Niyeu Volcano that leads us to the crater’s top and then continue to the camping in Laguna Verde.
Here we will enjoy the beauty of the Araucarias, a very old and emblematic tree of the Lanín National Park.
At the camp our chef will be waiting for us while preparing an excellent dinner by the fire to end this part of the program.

Day 3 Green Lagoon - Trek Aila - Lake Paimun
The day begins with a short land transfer from 10 km to the hot springs sector where the trail of the day begins.
A route with a south-north direction that will offer us several times incredible views of the Lanín Volcano and that goes through dense areas of araucarias and native forest as well as wide flat areas of pastures.
This day we will have to cross several water courses and finally we will arrive at a new lake, called Paimun, on the shore of which our new camp is located.
Our chef will be waiting for us with a new special menu by the fire for our last night at the camp.

Day 4 Trek Lanin South Face or Rafting
From Pto Canoa at the shore of Huechulafquen lake, we start trekking to the south face of Lanín Volcano.
It is a well-marked trail that initially crosses a pampa of radales for about 40 minutes. Then begins a smooth and gradual ascent into a forest of coihues and araucarias. After 2 hours we reach a first steep step to dodge an old volcanic slag covered with vegetation.
At the end of the forest ends the trail and from there we have a perfect view of the hanging glacier on the southern slope of the volcano. After a rest and lunch, we start our return back to the base and transfer to San Martín de los Andes

If the chosen option is to go rafting, after breakfast and some time of relax, our transfer will be ready to take us to the banks of the Chimehuin River. A class 3 water awaits us there for a different experience, about 2 hours of descent in rapids, always accompanied by the Lanin Volcano on the horizon. After such an exciting day, we will return to San Martin de los Andes by transfer again.

Day 5 End of the trip
Leave the accommodation and return home.
